Moon Safari

The Finger Review

THUMBS UP Hyping new record releases isn't on the usual Finger agenda. But Air French Band managed to fool us: everything about their "Moon Safari" is pleasingly dated. The stilted name, half-baked art, and random instrumentals coalesce into a kind of mood music for deranged dentists. You'd think that some jaded A&R exec with overdeveloped taste -- six weeks away from a nervous breakdown and an extended rest cure in Gstaad -- discovered Air in a milk crate under a folding table at some rural tag sale, then decided to rerelease it for his own insider tee-hees. But no. This duo is not dully retro, they're just French. And super-chouette at that.
