Moon Safari
House of Techno Review
(Source/Virgin) * CD * Ref. 0006
Discovered in 95 on the "Source Lab (1)" compilation with the excellent "Modulor Mix", Air have always done justice to their name : the tunes float serenely over musical movements without ever getting flustered, which has earned them an easy listening tag. "On the limits of anti-easy listening" according to Nicolas Godin. That's exactly right when you look at the Versailles duo's influences : Polnareff, exiled from a rectionary and warmongering France in the 60s; Debussy, once redeemed ; Ennio Morricone, Mr popular; or Gainsbourg, the provocative romantic. Never letting down the immense hype which preceded it, this simple album is already a classic.
